This Gate has Seen It All

First dates. Plenty of prosts. And random summer nights that went a little longer than planned. The Biergarten gate, just off the brick-paved alley of Cleveland Street, has welcomed guests for weddings, festivals, and countless nights of laughter among friends and family since it was added to the building in the 1970s. But after decades of exposure to the elements, it’s in need of replacement.

And we need your help!

Calling All Biergarten Friends!

As we look to the future to open this new gate, we’re working with local artists, fabricators, and friends of the Athenaeum — drawing inspiration from the existing architecture and history of the building — to develop the new Biergarten gate design you see here.

Your Name Will Be the First Thing They See

In special thanks and recognition, those who support the Biergarten Gate Project at a level of $1,000 or more will be recognized on a plaque inside the gate itself.
